Casper Ruud defeats Cameron Norrie in his fifth final of 2021, becoming the first player on the tour to win five titles in a single season; all-time great Rod Laver presented Ruud with his trophy.

Rudd, the second seed from Norway, had defeated Andy Murray earlier in the competition, while Norrie had beaten British No. 1 Dan Evans, Denis Shapovalov, and top seed Andrey Rublev.

But the 22-year-old was too excellent in the final, defeating Norrie 6-0 6-2 to extinguish his dreams of winning his second ATP tour championship in 2021.

What did Ruud say?

Norrie won the first game early in the second, but Casper Ruud broke for 4-2 and then again to win the championship.

“Daniil (Medvedev) and Novak (Djokovic) have bigger titles, so I wouldn’t mind switching up with them if I had an opportunity to switch five 250s to three Slams and a 250 Novak has. It’s a bit higher level, but that’s fine. I think that’s more impressive obviously than five 250s, but I will take it,” Ruud said, according to reports on BBC.

“It would be fun to end the year with the most titles, I cannot lie about that.”
