COVID expert takes savage dig at Djokovic after his detention – “Greatest returner of all time”

COVID expert and former Bachelor Dr. Matt Agnew took a savage dig at World No. 1 Novak Djokovic after his detention in Australia for not having a medical exemption.

Djokovic landed in Australia and the trouble hit the fan. Having had a Cold War of sorts with the Australian government regarding his vaccination stance, it finally boiled over the second he touched down on the continent.

The authorities swung into action immediately and detained the 20-time Grand Slam winner. His lawyers came to his aid, and at the time of writing, there is a huge legal battle going on between the two parties.

At this time, COVID expert Dr. Matt Agnew took a savage dig at Djokovic, poking fun at the possibility of him getting deported back to Serbia.

Taking to Instagram, Dr. Agnew wrote as reported by the Daily Mail, “I’m no tennis expert but as I understand it, Djokovic is the greatest returner of all time?”

Ba-dum-tss! As Djokovic faced the prospect of deportation, Dr Agnew wrote on Instagram, 'I'm no tennis expert but as I understand it, Djokovic is the greatest returner of all time?'

No exceptions for you

Australian Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Thursday morning that it was not a government decision to approve the Serbian’s medical exemption. With the Australian Open set to begin soon, time is running out for him to sort out the current mess and participate.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison then said in a statement on Twitter that Djokovic’s visa had been cancelled on Thursday morning. He said that no one, not even the tennis great, is safe from the rules.

“Mr Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled,” he tweeted.

“Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. No one is above these rules.

“Our strong border policies have been critical to Australia having one of the lowest death rates in the world from COVID, we are continuing to be vigilant.”
