Novak Djokovic’s Australian Open entry is still possible under certain conditions, as reported by the Mirror.
Djokovic’s anti-vaccine stance had originally closed the door on his entry into the tournament. The first Grand Slam of 2022 looked set to take place without the 20-time Grand Slam winner, but there seems to be a way to get him to come.
The Serbian ace ran into the roadblock that was a vaccine mandate. His stance of not taking the jab clashed with the rule. However, the latest news is that he is part of Serbia’s five-man team for the ATP Cup, thereby hinting at his presence.
Therefore, Djokovic’s Australian Open entry could still be possible.
When asked by reporters if his son would take the jab, Djokovic’s father Srdjan said, “As far as vaccines and non-vaccines are concerned, it is the personal right of each of us whether we will be vaccinated or not.
“Everyone has the right to decide on their health. Will he publish it? I don’t think so. I don’t know that decision either.
“And if I did, I wouldn’t share it with you. He has the right to decide as he wants.”
Welcome to Sydney
Fans thought Djokovic would really miss the tournament given how stubbornly he was sticking to his stance. However, the gates have opened for him to participate, which speaks volumes of the rules and about Djokovic himself.
Djoker has regularly remained silent on his vaccine status, but he gave an interview talking about it quite recently.
“You will be informed. I know what you want. I’m not going to give you an answer tonight. I know what you want to ask me,” he said.
“But you will be informed. That’s all I can tell you. I cannot give you any date. Obviously Australia is around the corner, so you will know very soon.”
