Hugh Jackman rallies behind Novak Djokovic as Serb takes out Kei Nishikori in 4 sets

Novak Djokovic, the current world number one, has been breaking all the records in recent years. The level of dominance he has demonstrated this season has been breathtaking at times. This season, he has won the first three Grand Slam tournaments in Melbourne, Paris, and London.

Novak Djokovic defeated Japanese player Kei Nishikori in the third round of the tournament yesterday. Despite losing the first set, the Serb was able to recover and win the following three. Surprisingly, there were a number of renowned supporters for Serbia’s World No. 1 player.

Hugh Jackman, a Hollywood icon popularly known as Wolverine, was one of the first to congratulate Novak, posting a story on Instagram with the comment “Let’s Go.” Jelena Djokovic, who donned a wolf t-shirt with her husband’s face like a shadow, was another intriguing fan.

Djokovic’s journey this season

Novak Djokovic had to fight back from a set down to overcome Kei Nishikori and move to the fourth round of the US Open, keeping his goal for a calendar Grand Slam alive. The world number one overcame a sloppy first set to beat the Japanese for the 17th time in a consecutive, 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-3 6-2. The 34-year-old Serb is aiming for a men’s Grand Slam record of 21 titles.

Novak opened the season by capturing his 18th Grand Slam championship in Melbourne, according to the results thus far. He then went on to win the French Open for the second time in his career in Paris. He defeated Rafael Nadal in the semifinals, which was one of the most significant victories of the season.

When it comes to tennis, Djokovic recently faced his first big challenge. Despite having defeated Novak 16 times prior to yesterday’s match, Nishikori’s experience and shot-making are of the highest calibre. With that victory, the World No. 1 player will now face Jenson Brooksby, a local lad.
