According to Michal Samulski, Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has secured a contract to play in Marseille in 2022. Sinner, who is currently ranked No. 13 in the world, is due to compete in Marseille for the third time in a row.
Sinner lost in the round of 16 on his first appearance in Marseille last year, but advanced to the quarterfinals the following year.
Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Aliassime are also expected to play for Marseille, thus Sinner is the third player to be confirmed.
Sinner successfully defended his Sofia championship last week, defeating Gael Monfils in the final 6-3 6-4.
“The level was high today,” Sinner said in his on-court interview. “We had long, long rallies and it was physical as well.
“I am happy to be the winner here in Sofia again. I think it is a very nice tournament. It was the best match I have played this week because I had to,” he said as per reports on TennisHead.
Sinner talks about Monfils
After the Sofia final, Sinner, 20, encouraged Gael Monfils, 34, to keep going.
“First of all Gael, great week for you. You were unlucky in some moments today. But, we had some great fights, great matches.
“Obviously congrats to you and your team. Tennis needs you, it really needs you. So, thanks for staying here in tough moments, like this, without crowds.
“I know you don’t like that. But, hopefully, soon everything is going to be normal. So, good luck to you,” Sinner told
Despite the fact that Monfils has never won a Grand Slam or reached the top of the world rankings, Sinner believes Monfils’ achievements are remarkable.
“What Monfils has done in his career is amazing. He has played a lot of big matches and still moves very well on the court.
“He’s extremely talented and he’s a great guy. We have a good relationship, sometimes we joke together in the locker room,” Sinner told about Monfils.
