Lopez urges calm on Nadal’s record-breaking win – “Don’t analyse, just enjoy”

Spanish tennis player Feliciano Lopez urged fans to stay calm on Rafael Nadal’s record-breaking win, saying it doesn’t need excessive scrutiny and comparison.

Nadal made history at the Australian Open when he beat Daniil Medvedev in a hotly-contested final to win his 21st Grand Slam. With the win, he jumped Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the all-time standings, becoming the most successful tennis player to have ever played.

Fans were ecstatic regarding his win, especially the nature of the win. Having found himself two sets down, he rallied back and took the next three to win the match and the trophy.

However, Lopez urged calm on Nadal’s record-breaking win, saying fans must just appreciate it instead of obsessing.

“I recommend not looking for explanations or trying to analyse what @RafaelNadal has done today,” he tweeted, as quoted by Tennis World USA.

“Just enjoy it. How can so many emotions be conveyed by hitting one tennis ball? Thanks for your example.”

All sinking in

Nadal commented on the match, saying it was one of the most important matches he has ever played.

“It was one of the most emotional matches of my career,” the Spaniard said while collecting his trophy.

“To share the court with Daniil was just an honour. It is amazing. To be honest, one and a half months ago I wasn’t sure if was able to be back on the Tour playing tennis again.

“But today I am here in front of all of you with this trophy in front of me. You are just amazing, thank you so much.

“Having the huge support I received over the past three weeks is going to stay in my heart for the rest of my life, so thank you very much.”
