Rick Macci gave a hot take on Venus Williams, saying that she was more gifted than her sister.
Venus and Serena Williams are two of the best women’s tennis players in the world and in the history books. The latter is the more decorated one among the two siblings, but Venus is still an elite player.
Macci is a seven-time USPTA national coach of the year and USPTA Master Professional, and has coached both of the,. His credentials speak for themselves, as he has coached players like Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, and Maria Sharapova.
Therefore, his judgment is more credible than most, and his word is worth a lot in the tennis world. Macci gave a hot take on Venus, saying that he would pick her over her sister based on natural talent.
Speaking on the Double Bagel Tennis Podcast, Macci said, “Venus (Williams) would’ve been the greatest player ever, if she had taken advantage of those god given attributes.
“I think if Venus if stuck to the plan, (she would have). After her debut I was still there 8-10 month months (sic). The plan was to take the second serve of your opponent and come in a lot. And to serve and volley a little bit. I’ve never had a player go from Point A to Point B than VW, she was like the wind…”
Having coached both women, Macci also talked about what the siblings were like to train in their younger days, and mentioned their strengths.
“Serena always had a natural better throwing motion,” he said.
“Biomechanically they both did things a little different because of their body type, but Serena was a natural in her throwing movement. But Venus had gifts from above that Serena didn’t. Her wingspan you couldn’t pass the girl.
“It is what it is; they are both champions, they are two of the greatest, and Serena in my opinion, is the greatest.”
