Andy Murray hailed Rafael Nadal as his best ever opponent, saying that there is nothing more daunting than facing him.
Murray has been an elite player for a lot of time. However, he hasn’t quite managed to replicate that level for a while now. This is especially true in comparison to the three players he always gets compared to – Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The Big Three are all 20-time Grand Slam champions, something Murray can’t claim to be. However, he has faced all three them in various competitions, and has a few wins to his name as well.
When asked who his toughest adversary was, Murray hailed Nadal as his best ever opponent, and said that the game feels tough the second he sees the Spaniard on the opposite end of the court.
“I have talked a bit about the characteristics of Nole or Roger, but there is no doubt that the worst thing on a tennis court is having Nadal on the other side of the court,” he said, as quoted by Tennis World USA.
“Perhaps it is the most difficult task in the world of sport, to beat him on a slow surface, especially in Paris.”
Djoker’s wild
Murray also talked about Djokovic, and said that he is absolutely unplayable on some surfaces.
“When it comes to Novak Djokovic, the first thing that comes to mind is Australia. He is untouchable there. It is an impossible mission to beat him,” he said.
“The number of titles he has there is crazy. Besides, it is difficult to play against Novak on any surface, as he conforms very well on all surfaces. He is very complete.
“I beat Nole twice on grass, so I think I have a better chance on that surface. On the other hand, against Roger Federer, I lost several important matches in grass so I can say it’s a bit more difficult against him than against Novak at Wimbledon,” he concluded.
