Novak Djokovic has crossed paths with a number of tennis players over his career. While he made a positive impression on the majority of occasions, he has featured in a verbal battle with Nick Kyrgios earlier.
Following his victory in the US Open, though, it appears that that is all water under the bridge as Kyrgios was full of kind words for the Serbian World No. 1.
Kyrgios made a comment to express respect for Djokovic’s run in New York in a recent post praising him.
Kyrgios praises Djokovic
Despite being one of the most successful players, Djokovic is down 2-0 against Kyrgios in their head-to-head. Their most recent meeting was four years ago, at the 2017 Indian Wells event. Kyrgios took issue with the Serbian at this year’s Australian Open, ranting about his need to be liked.
On Eurosport he said, “I just feel like he has a sick obsession with wanting to be liked. He just wants to be like Roger [Federer]. This whole celebration thing that he does after matches, it’s like so cringeworthy. It’s very cringeworthy.”
The US Open social media account dedicated a post to World No. 1’s accomplishments. It featured an animated Djokovic beside a list of all the opponents he beat at Grand Slams this year.
Among the many comments, one that stuck out was Kyrgios’, who expressed his admiration for his accomplishment by commenting, “Pretty dope”.
Fans from all across the world responded with over 400 likes and over 30 comments to the message. While it may appear to be burying the hatchet, you may imagine that Djokovic has more important things on his mind.
