Naomi Osaka gets Maria Sharapova backing over recent decision to stay away from court

Maria Sharapova has won five Grand Slam titles in her career and is one of just 10 players in history to complete the Career Grand Slam.

A feat she accomplished on June 9, 2012, when she won his maiden Roland Garros.

She has also competed in 36 singles tournaments, including the 2004 WTA Finals and twelve Premier category tournaments.

Sharapova has held the top spot in the global singles rankings five times, for a total of 21 weeks. Becoming the only Russian player to do so in history.

She was number one for the first time at the age of 18 on August 22, 2005, and again in July 2012. Sharapova has won the ESPY Award five times for best tennis player (2005, 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2014).

Naomi Osaka, on the other hand, has won seven WTA titles in her career out of eleven finals, including four Grand Slam victories: the US Open in 2018 and 2020, and the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021.

Following her first Australian victory, she became the first Asian to reach the top of the global rankings on January 28, 2019.

Naomi Osaka was the first Japanese woman to win a Grand Slam championship. The third Japanese woman to reach the WTA Finals in the Open era.

Osaka was the highest-paid female athlete in history in 2019 and 2020, earning $ 37 million and $ 60 million, respectively.

She was the torchbearer who lit the Olympic brazier on July 23, 2021, at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Sharapova talks about Osaka

Sharapova spoke about the unique period that rising Japanese sensation Naomi Osaka is going through in her most recent interview.

Naomi addressed all of her mental health issues from Roland Garros 2021 to present. Which made her to doubt her tennis future.

“We should support all athletes going through difficult times.

“Naomi Osaka is an incredible tennis player and a fantastic person who has a bright future ahead of her,” Sharapova said as per reports on Tennis Freaks.

“You have to respect the decisions that people make in a time of strong vulnerability.

“People don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes or how a player feels. We must support everyone: the more support we give to the players, the more they will play and feel better.”

“Even on difficult days, an athlete must attend press conferences, have a professional attitude and talk about tennis.”
