Emma Raducanu talked about her stunning Grand Slam title, saying that it wasn’t a possibility in her wildest dreams.
Raducanu stunned the world when she took victory at the US Open, defeating some of the top names in the sport. The most amazing thing about it was that she was just 18 at the time of the win,
The British teenage was relatively unknown before her against-all-odds victory. If there is anyone out there who bet money on her to win before the tournament started, we want to see you.
Raducanu talked about her stunning Grand Slam title, saying that not once did she think she would go all the way.
“I arrived in New York just hoping to get through qualifying maybe, she told Sky Sports.
“I was pretty tired. I just had the most amazing time and I think the key to that was I just focused on the day.
“The time flew by, It went so fast by the end of it I was like, ‘I don’t wanna leave yet, I wanna stay’, and it was getting to the latter stages of the tournament and I was thinking, ‘but, what if? You’re here, so why not?’ But no one made a big deal of it.”
Doing her thing
Raducanu also talked about people’s opinions on her, and stated that she couldn’t care less about them.
“I feel like people are gonna have opinions and expectations of me, but I don’t really think about that. To me, it doesn’t matter,” she explained.
“To me the things that matter are the expectations of myself and what I want to achieve and what I want to get out of the day.
“It’s just about improving and seeing yourself get better and I don’t take anyone else’s opinions into account except for my close circle,” she concluded.
