Former world No. 6 Chanda Rubin revealed the contents of the text Serena Williams sent her, saying that it meant a lot to her.
Rubin and Serena have a very good relationship. They spend time together and discuss all things tennis and personal. She keeps in contact with the 23-time Grand Slam winner.
Recently, Rubin revealed the contents of a text Serena sent her, saying that she took away a lot from it.
“I recently had the opportunity to spend, you know, six weeks with her and getting the little text ‘Hey, come over and watch some film’ and it might sound weird,” she said, as quoted by Tennis World USA.
“But, I mean, like, but hey, she’s already done all of this and she’s sitting down watching film with her and she literally breaks it down.
“I just, that to me, you know, just all the things that I’ve known, but to where she is now and she still wants to learn. I think, is probably one of those moments that I will always cherish.”
No. 24 needed
Williams is trying her best to win her record-equalling 24th Grand Slam. However, she has been falling at the final hurdle for quite some time now.
However, according to coach Paul Annacone, the American stated that she hasn’t given up.
“Let’s think about it. 23, she’s been on that number of Majors. She doesn’t play another match, it doesn’t matter,” he said.
“She has done so much. Internally, I think with great players, they got to figure out why they want to keep playing. She is such a competitor. She wants to get that No. 24.
“All those things outside the court for her are great way for her to kind of decompress and hit the reset button for a bit. But, at the end of your career as an athlete, you have to be very careful not to stay too far that way.
“Because the longer you go, the longer it is to get back there. I think she and Patrick know exactly what they want to do. There is no reason she can’t continue to play great,” he concluded.
