“Not like I don’t understand”: Favourite to win the Imola GP, Max says he has never had fair title fight

The bookmakers have placed Max Verstappen as their favourite to win the Grand Prix in Imola. The race next week is the second race of the season with Lewis Hamilton winning the first one at Bahrain. The signs indicate that Verstappen might be an early favourite for the one in Imola.

Currently, Verstappen is the bookmakers favorite as Sky Bet offers 11/8 for him to become the first to cross the finish line.

Hamilton is the second favorite at 6/4. Valtteri has interesting odds at 7/1 while if you believe that Sergio Perez will take his second win in Italy, he is at 11/1.

Verstappen’s last three races in Italy didn’t pan out well. The 23-year-old in 2020, recorded DNFs at Mugello, Monza and Imola. A retirement would jolt his pre-season confidence quite considerably.

Honda used the last couple of weeks to study the electrical problems of Perez and Pierre Gasly. The component were replaced at Bahrain just as an added precaution and can be used again.

In an interview, the Dutchman explained how him missing out on a junior title will not stand in his way towards the title.

“You don’t have to win every fight or every race. But that’s the nature of it. Just because I haven’t won a title doesn’t mean I don’t understand,” Verstappen said in an interview with Autosport Magazine.

“Once you’ve been in that position of having a car to win titles in, it makes things a lot easier,” he said.
