Lewis Hamilton has revealed that one of the first things he told Mercedes after joining was that he was not a weird person.
The Brit joined the Silver Arrows back in 2013 and has won six world titles with the team and accumulated 96 wins in Formula 1. This has made him the most successful driver the sport has ever seen.
He believes that one of the key factors for his success is how his relationship with Mercedes has panned out during the last eight years.
“It’s a relationship like no previous relationship,” Hamilton told Gazzetta Dello Sport.
“When I joined the team I immediately said, ‘I am the way I am, I am not weird but I am just the way I am. I am happy with who I am and besides I want to win championships for you, I want to grow’.
“They gave me the space to grow and that is why I ended up with the best team in Formula 1 to be able to do that.”
Hamilton thinks that having the full support of team principal Toto Wolff and Mercedes has enabled them to gain unparalleled success in the sport.
“My lifestyle has also not changed anything,” added Hamilton. “We have won a lot, we are the strongest team, full of sponsors, we have been followed the most on the social media and everything stems from a fundamental part of the cooperation.
“It is looking from above at the best solution, never alone and always different. Success is right under your nose, but it comes from very far away.”
