The British Grand Prix, despite all the controversy surrounding Lewis and Max’s crash, played host to an unexpected guest.
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise was responsible for a bunch of headlines after he was spotted in Silverstone attending the race on Sunday afternoon.
The Mission Impossible actor was a guest of Mercedes driver and seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton.
During the pinnacle moment of the race when Hamilton overtook Charles Leclerc, we could see Tom cheering for the Brit.
James Allison talks about hosting Cruise
Mercedes Technical Director James Allison, in a recent interview, talked about the experience of sharing the race with Cruise.
“If I’m honest, most of the time I was thinking my son is going to be really pissed off at me,” he stated.
“He was a charming guest, he was really interested in what we were doing.
“He wanted to keep a pretty low profile, so he was just listening and talking to us all and was fascinated to be taken around the garage and see the amount of love and care we put in our car,” he added.
Back in 2011, Tom had tested a Formula 1 car in Los Angeles with David Coulthard as a promotional activity for Mission Impossible 4.
Mercedes heads to Hungary
Mercedes Trackside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin has stated that it would be difficult for the Silver Arrows to have a repeat of the performance in Silverstone.
He also added that the circuit in Hungary is more suited for Red Bull.
“[Silverstone] is one of our best tracks, so it would be naïve for us to think we can go [to Hungary] and expect to carry this performance in,” said Shovlin.
“Red Bull are going to be good at a high-downforce circuit.
“Frankly, they’re good at every circuit at the moment and they’re going to be a bit bruised after the experience [in the British Grand Prix], so I’m sure they’re going to come back really strong,” he concluded.
