After the second free practice session in Monaco, what was surprising was Charles Leclerc managed to ace the timesheet while Carlos Sainz was close behind him.
The duo is highly optimistic for the upcoming weekend.
Ferrari picking up the pace
After a difficult 2020, Ferrari has been faring a lot better this year. They managed to score third place in the first four races after beating rivals, McLaren.
Monaco seems to be promising for the outfit as the Italian team was very comfortable on the street circuit on Thursday. This has made Sainz very confident.
In an interview with Motorsportweek.com, Sainz said, ”We seem to be going to be a real threat, but we have to wait until FP1. A lot can change from Thursday to Saturday, and there are a few drivers who will take it easy on Thursday.
“On Saturday Lewis (Hamilton) is always super fast, so we’ll see. In anycase it is good to see that we are closer.”
From last to P1
During the first free practice session, Leclerc came in last. This was due to a gearbox problem. However, the Monegas was able to score the fastest lap in FP2 after getting used to the situation.
“I want to wait until Saturday now, but it looks too good to believe it,” he said.
“There are still some margins, and I’m sure Red Bull and Mercedes can do more too, so we shouldn’t get too carried away. We have to work hard on Friday, and then we’ll see where it ends,” the Ferrari driver concluded.
