“Unworthy of Formula 1”: Verstappen pins blame on Portimao circuit after qualifying woes

Max Verstappen did not have a picture-perfect qualifying and was left visibly disappointed in its aftermath. He even took out time to point out the flaws of the Portimao circuit.

Valtteri Bottas took pole followed by Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen came in third but would have managed to score pole had it not been for a time deletion for exceeding track limits.

“It’s just like last year,” Verstappen told the media.

“There is almost no grip. Of course it is the same for everyone, but I don’t like to drive like that. This is unworthy of Formula 1.”

Even with a time deletion, Verstappen feels that he could have done a better job and scored a place ahead of the Mercedes pair.

“We [Red Bull] certainly have the speed,” Verstappen continued. “In my second run I had [Sebastian] Vettel in front of me.

“And with the track as it is now, you lose a lot of grip with a car in front of you, and also a lot of time, which is a shame.”
