Mercedes driver, Valtteri Bottas has been under a lot of pressure from his team considering his contract ends by the end of this season.
For the upcoming 2022 season, the Silver Arrows have to make a choice between Bottas and current Williams driver George Russell.
The Finn revealed that this might impact his performance for the remainder of the season.
Bottas for Mercedes
Bottas has been associated with Mercedes since 2017 when he was brought in as a last-minute replacement for Nico Rosberg who had departed suddenly.
The former Williams driver has not been a popular choice and has been the subject of discussions several times.
At first, Bottas had to fight Esteban Ocon and now he faces extra pressure with Russell on the cards.
Pressure taking its toll
Bottas revealed that he is unhappy with the current situation he finds himself in.
With the pressure due to Russell and the fact that he has a one-year contract with Mercedes, he is unable to focus on racing.
‘It’s just speculation and it’s just guesswork based on what I’m feeling right now, but it would certainly have saved a lot of energy and a lot of unnecessary pressure,” he stated.
”Not just focusing on the moment, but knowing you’re with the team and can focus on next year and all the improvements you want to share with the team for the future.
“It would certainly have been a different peace of mind,” Bottas concluded.
