Overview
Xisco Munoz is a football manager and retired football player. He is mainly known for his career as head coach of Watford FC, whom he guided to a great promotion into the Premier League from the championship.
Munoz played in the Spanish flights as a player, before retiring and taking up a managerial role.
Xisco Munoz Early Life and Career
Munoz was born Francisco Javier Munoz Llompart on 5 September, 1980. He was born into a family which adored sports, and hence was exposed to it from a young age.
The Spaniard started out as a player, playing the left wing role. He began playing in the youth ranks of RCD Mallorca, and further played for Valencia and Huelva’s youth teams.
It was here that the young Munoz showed the world what he could do. He scored ten goals during his first season before making a return to his now-promoted parent club.
Munoz played for Valencia for two seasons, and was part of the squad that won La Liga in 2004. He also won the UEFA Cup that same year, though he remained on the bench the entire game.
The Spaniard got his big break when he moved to Real Betis in 2005. He signed a six-year deal with the club, and played various positions for them. Although he did not score many goals, he netted some crucial last-minute goals. They helped his team avoid relegation on the last day of the season.
Munoz moved to Levante and played well, helping the team secure promotion to La Liga. Unfortunately, they went back down pretty soon, and he was released the following season. He showed that there was plenty of life left in him, as he scored a career-best 22 goals for Dinamo Tbilisi, including one that helped them retain the league title. In 2016, he retired from football.
Munoz started coaching the team he last played for. With him in the coaching staff, Dinamo won the league after a three-year wait. He was promoted to head coach, and the club won the Erovnuli Liga in December itself. His hot streak drew the attention of Watford FC, who signed him in a bid to return to the Premier League.
The new appointment duly obliged, completing his objective quickly and effectively. This was the biggest feather in his cap. His Premier League debut ended up being a 3-2 win over Aston Villa. Unfortunately, he was sacked after six top-flight games in charge despite Watford sitting above the relegation zone.
In a statement, Watford announced that Munoz was overseeing a “negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving.”

The Watford sacking sent fans into visible confusion, because Munoz’s team was playing well and overachieving in England’s top flight. However, it happened and it’s done, but by no means is that the end for Munoz.
