“When Mercedes makes an offer”: Williams wary of losing Russell, stays mum on countering exit

Valtteri Bottas currently has a lot of rumours regarding him being replaced prematurely this season. This is due to the vast difference between his and teammate Lewis Hamilton’s performance.

As a result, several media outlets began to report that Mercedes will be replacing Bottas with Williams driver George Russell.

According to Williams CEO Jost Capito, if Mercedes pitches Russell an offer, he will not refuse it.

While Russell has been unable to score any points yet, his driving style is praiseworthy. This just goes to show that the Brit is ready to drive alongside Lewis Hamilton.

“When Mercedes makes a driver an offer, it’s hard for someone to keep him. It doesn’t matter which driver, in which team,” Capito said.

For the time being, Williams is not looking for a replacement for Russell.

“It’s too early now. Several contracts are expiring. At some point the silly season will start,” he said.

“Don’t let it start earlier than necessary. At the moment it would be wrong to focus on alternatives or ask what a driver will do next year.

“That’s too early in my opinion. We need to focus on the team first.”

Bottas and Russell had a terrible crash in Imola which led both drivers to be unable to race.
