AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly has made a tongue-in-cheek remark aimed at the FIA, inviting them to check his genitals. This comes on the back of the governing body issuing a clampdown on non-fireproof underwear.

Recently, new race director Niels Wittoch said that no jewellery attached to the neck or piercings on the body of drivers would be allowed by FIA. This did make things slightly tricky for Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who sports a nose stud.

Gasly seemed far from happy with FIA’s latest policy and was quick to offer his two cents on the issue.

“I won’t comment on that. If they want to check my arse, feel free, I’ve got nothing to hide,” he said.

“My cock, everything. If that makes them happy, feel free.”

Under-fire McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo, who finally got some points at the Australian Grand prix to get his campaign underway, seemed equally concerned with FIA’s new mandate.

“This was the first time I’d heard about the fireproof underwear,” Ricciardo said.

“Obviously we wear the leggings if you want to call it that, but we don’t have actual underwear-underwear that’s fireproof, so that was just more of a surprise. I’d never heard of it.”

The Australian driver, though, said that he would be sure to invest in such underwear if it made racing safer.

“If it helps keep us a bit safer in those situations then, of course, I’ll invest in some,” he said.

“But I don’t think they make them. Or at least our people that we get our race kit from I don’t think, so we’re going to have to get some custom ones.

“And I guess it’s going to be tailor-made of course!”
