Ricciardo reveals why his relationships with former teams are stronger than other racers

McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo revealed the nature of the relationships he has with the teams he left, saying that they have been positive for the most part.

Ricciardo is what one might call a serial gridtrotter, having raced for multiple teams throughout his career. He currently races for McLaren having had spells at HRT, Toro Rosso (now called AlphaTauri), Red Bull and Renault (now called Alpine).

Many drivers have a history of severing relationships with teams they leave. Some depart on extremely bad terms and often proceed to take veiled digs at them during press conferences. The Australian, however, is not one of them.

Ricciardo revealed the nature of the relationships he has with the teams he left, saying that he is on good terms with each and every one.

As quoted by Racingnews365.com, when asked if he maintains good relations with the teams he used to race with, the Honey Badger replied, “Pretty good.

“There’s always, when you move on as well from another team and whatever the circumstance, you go through the period of… I don’t know, a little bit of sadness, because you’re closing one chapter, I guess.”

Just who I am

“But, I don’t know, I think me as a person, I’m pretty bubbly and excited, and I always find a way to enjoy whichever environment I’m in,” the eight-time race winner continued.

“So I think, through that, you make good relationships, and therefore those relationships do seem to last. So I like to think I’ve got some good relationships with past teams and, more importantly, just good experiences.

“They’ve all played a part in ultimately where I am today, so I think it’s pretty good.”
