“We hadn’t actually called him”: Horner reveals Verstappen’s pitstop blunder that cost valuable time

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has revealed that Max Verstappen had a slightly slow pitstop because the team was not ready for him. In fact, he had not been called into the pit.

The Dutchman, after facing incredible pressure from Lewis Hamilton, drove straight into the pit on lap 24. Unfortunately, this mistake led him to clock a pit time of four seconds, double than the usual.

Horner mentioned that this was because he had not been called in by the team.

“Fortunately, we were gearing up for the stop but then Max just comes in to the pit lane and we hadn’t actually called him in at that point,” Horner explained to Sky Sports F1.

“So quick reactions, from the pit wall, from his race engineer, from the pit crew to get that turned around without losing more time.

“I think [it] was a four second stop so they recovered incredibly well to get that turned around on that short notice.”
