Liverpool’s Luis Diaz has made an excellent start to his career at the Merseyside club since signing from Porto for £37.5 million back in January. The Colombian forward has had an immediate impact on Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Diaz, who played 125 times for Porto before his move to the Premier League, joined a team that had been very successful over the last few years. Klopp’s starting XI rarely changed during their period which saw them win the Champions League and Premier League titles.
The Colombia international has been in competition for places in the Liverpool team with the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Diogo Jota, and he has held his own.
Diaz is making a big difference in all the competitions Liverpool has been in this season. He will be hoping to be in the starting XI for the Champions League final against Real Madrid where his side is the -225 favorites in the bet on Champions League market for the game in Paris.
So, there is a strong case to be made for saying Diaz has been the signing of the season in the Premier League. He has shown he has all the attributes needed to be one of the best forwards in the world.
With a full pre-season behind him this summer, the former Porto man could continue to improve in England. Liverpool fans will feel they have a new hero at Anfield and will be excited about what he can help their club deliver on the pitch over the next few years.
Ronaldo has looked like he never left
Although it has not been a great season for Manchester United, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo has at least given their supporters something to cheer about. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored over 20 goals in all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign.
Ronaldo returned to Manchester United last summer after 12 years away from the club. Despite being 37 years old now, he has proved he can be a big player at the highest level in Europe.
There were some questions asked at the start of the season about what impact Ronaldo could have on the United team. He has more than shown that the Manchester club was right to sign the player again, as he has been one of the few bright sparks in their team.
The Portugal international has a contract at Old Trafford until the end of next season. There is then an option for another deal. It’s highly likely that incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will want to use the striker as his leading option upfront in the 2022/23 campaign.
Ronaldo may not have the pace he once had in his 20s, but he remains one of the best finishers in world football. The United man should be in the conversation alongside Diaz as one of the signings of the season. Both Diaz and Ronaldo are likely to be in contention for the 2021/22 Premier League Team of the Season, which will be announced at the end of the campaign.
