“Worried about the gearbox”: Charles Leclerc to start from pole despite crashing in the last lap

Charles Leclerc managed to qualify on pole position at his home circuit of Monaco. However, he suffered a major crash in the final lap of qualifying.

The crash has made him worry about his gearbox. If Ferrari ends up changing the gearbox, the outfit will end up with a grid penalty.

The session came to an end with the waving of red flags after Leclerc crashed into the barriers. As a result, there was no possibility of further fast laps from the likes of Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas.

After the session, Leclerc admitted that he is worried about the gearbox.

“It’s a shame to finish in the wall. It doesn’t feel the same, but at the same time, I’m incredibly happy with the first timed lap.” he said.

“I have always been very unlucky here. I am worried about the gearbox.”

Ferrari ‘might’ take first pole since 2019

If things go well for the outfit, Ferrari will be taking the pole for the first time since Mexico 2019.

“The first corner was tricky, I didn’t do a great first corner but I nailed the second and third sector” Leclerc added.

“Just very happy to be on pole. But it’s tomorrow that we score points. It’s a surprise for everyone to be on pole for the race tomorrow,” he concluded.
